Shorthaired Pointer Rescue
General Information
- This has been a very difficult
year for GSP rescue. We have been overwhelmed with the number
of dogs needing to be rescued. At any given time, there are
scores of GSPs in shelters at risk of being euthanized. We
have limited foster homes and funds and, unfortunately, can't save
them all. Please consider becoming a foster home for needy
GSPs or making a donation to our rescue effort. If you'd like
more information about assisting in the rescue of GSPs, please
contact us at foster@gsprescuedogs.com
To make a donation, please click on the PayPal button or contact us
at donate@gsprescuedogs.com
or NorCal GSP Rescue,
P.O. Box 933,
Menlo Park, CA 94026
- The GSPs
that are
currently available for adoption can be found on the
Available GSPs page. Most of them are either in foster care, a shelter
or a boarding kennel. To begin the adoption process, please fill out the
Adoption Questionnaire
-
Note that we do not
generally do long distance adoptions. The only exceptions are
for our dogs that may be a bit more difficult to place such as seniors
and those with special needs. To find a rescuer in your area,
check the Nationwide
Contacts list on the National
GSP Rescue web site.
-
If you have not had
the pleasure of having a GSP as part of your family, please read the
article "Is a
GSP Right for You?". The
article will give you more information about the breed, what to expect
and the type of exercise and training needed to have a happy and healthy
GSP companion.
-
For the comfort and
safety of our dogs, our rescues only go to homes with fenced
yards and must have house privileges.
-
Before going to their
new homes, all of our rescue dogs are
altered, have been heartworm tested, are up to date on shots (rabies,
DHLPP, Bordetella), have had a complete veterinary exam and are
microchipped. We also provide any additional medical care that a dog
may require while in our care.
-
We learn of GSPs in
need of rescue every day. If you are interested in a GSP but do
not see what you're looking for on our site, please contact us and
we'll put you in our database for future contact should a suitable GSP
become available.
-
If you are interested
in helping a GSP by becoming a foster family, please contact us.
